As the Vice President of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) network, Bogotá's Mayor, Claudia López, will take part in the Forum of Local and Regional Governments and the Acceleration Day for Sustainable Development Goals - SDG, within the framework of the 'SDG Action Weekend'.

This event, convened by the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, aims to highlight the commitment and progress of local and regional governments in implementing the 2030 Agenda. It will bring together various global stakeholders from civil society, the public and private sectors, youth, women, academia, and more.

The commitment of local and regional governments involves promoting policies that revolve around the well-being of people and the planet, delivering quality public services, local social inclusion policies, ecological transformation, sustainable development, and the creation of multi-sectoral alliances and partnerships.

This event will take place at the United Nations headquarters over two days: the SDG Mobilization Day on Saturday, September 16, and the Sustainable Development Goals Acceleration Day on Sunday, September 17.

On Saturday, the city's mayor will participate as a panelist in the Local & Regional Governments Forum, a platform where voluntary commitments of local governments to accelerate the 2030 Agenda will be reaffirmed. Discussions will also revolve around the priorities and aspirations of these administrations in preparation for the SDG Summit.

In her schedule, there is also a meeting planned with Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, the Chief of Government of Buenos Aires, Argentina, to discuss joint activities as regional vice-presidents of the C40 Climate Leadership Group.

On Sunday, September 17, which is the SDG Acceleration Day, the Mayor will participate in the 'Generation Equality' forum organized by UN Women. This is a global initiative aimed at expediting investment and the implementation of strategies to achieve gender equality, especially in the context of a global rollback of women's rights.

Furthermore, the Mayor will be a panelist in the 'Local 2030 Coalition' forum, where lessons learned will be shared, and additional funding for the SDGs will be sought. The importance of local efforts in achieving global goals will be emphasized. This platform aims to strengthen collaboration between local governments, stakeholders, and the United Nations system.

The Mayor's agenda in New York will conclude with a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, to exchange experiences on women's leadership and explore potential areas of cooperation.

Mayor Claudia López's participation in the 'SDG Action Weekend' provides an opportunity to showcase the policies and advancements led by Bogota in terms of caring for people and sustainable development. These serve as a global reference and will contribute to amplifying the voices of local governments, making valuable contributions to influence discussions at the summit.
